school celebrated

jean gallagher, visiting from nova scotia, attended laura secord school in queenston in the 50s. attending the final celebration sunday brought back good memories, she says, and gave her a chance to try out a slide that was not there when she was at school and to meet some friends she had not seen for years. more plants, more variety, most value! ????????

queenston residents have high hopes for a bright future for the laura secord school property, including holding on to the community park.

penny coles niagara advance retired and current teachers caught up on news, former students reminisced, parents and kids enjoyed the beautiful day and community members discussed the future. sunday's celebration of education at laura secord school in queenston was a bittersweet opportunity for nostalgia as the facility which opened in 1914 prepares to close its doors to students in june. while friends and acquaintances poured over memorabilia and shared their recollections of decades gone by, many were saddened by the school's closing and questioning the future of the historic building. ad schoot uiterkamp lives down the road from the school, and has two children who attended. he has been involved in the past as a parent, and will continue to be as a community member, he said. "we didn't fight the school closure," he said. see page 4 our growing reputation is in every plant we sell! 18 carlton st. e. (just east of lock 2 bridge welland canal) open: mon.-sat. 8 to 8 closed sunday "our family day"
