Ready for a new year
William, a former student of Niagara Nursery School, and his brother James Couroux, a current student, are ready to start school in September. Friends of NDSS wait for injunction decision
Town will contribute $5,000 to court costs.
Council is standing behind the Friends of NDSS in their last effort to save the school. Councillor Gary Zalepa Jr., chair of the NDSS Strategy Committee, asked at Monday's council meeting for $5,000 to cover legal costs incurred by the Friends of NDSS seeking an injunction against closing the town's only high school. "We feel this is the last step. We've exhausted all other outlets and the court is the last one," Zalepa said. The hearing for the injunction, the first step toward a review of the board's decision to close Niagara District Secondary School, took place last week, but the Friends were still waiting for a decision at press time. The grant will help cover the financial contributions of those who personally invested in the cost of the court case. There was some concern expressed that if the court allows the injunction, there could be more requests for funding. However, the polled vote was unanimous approval.
