They chose change. Local businessman Pat Darte will be the next lord mayor. He beat incumbent Dave Eke, a 20-year municipal politician who has served at every level, by more than 900 votes - Darte with 3,627, Eke with 2,723. Darte was relaxed and confident Monday evening, and said he was not particularly surprised to be the new leader of the municipality as a firsttime politician. "I'm not one for making assumptions, and I came into this with no preconceived idea about how it would work out. I just want to do the job." He says he felt strong support as he went door-to-door. "I kept hearing people wanted change, but you never know if they're just saying that. I guess they meant it."
